Maritime Transportation Management Engineering
The Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering program includes a one-year English preparatory course and a four-year undergraduate education, with English as the mandatory language of instruction. The program is conducted in uniform. Graduates who successfully complete their studies receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering from Piri Reis University Faculty of Maritime Studies.
The faculty’s maritime programs meet the requirements for both undergraduate degrees and oceangoing master mariner training. The curriculum complies with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and is monitored and audited by YÖK (Higher Education Council) and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The courses fully align with the 2010 amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW-1978).
The program aims to train qualified engineers who can meet the operational and managerial needs of maritime organizations and institutions, as well as oceangoing watch officers capable of conducting maritime operations in accordance with global standards. In addition to fundamental engineering courses, students take specialized subjects such as maritime business, ship management, marine safety, and security. The curriculum includes both theoretical instruction and hands-on training through advanced simulator centers, laboratories, and workshops.
Students complete 12 months of onboard internship, divided into a six-month First Sea Internship and a six-month Second Sea Internship.
Graduates who pass the Seafarers’ Examination conducted by the Seafarers Examination Center according to the Seafarers and Pilot Captains Regulation obtain the Oceangoing Master Mariner License. They begin their careers as oceangoing watch officers on both Turkish and foreign-flagged vessels. After completing the required service periods, they can qualify for the Oceangoing Chief Officer and later the Oceangoing Master Mariner License through additional examinations.
