Ship Machinery Management Engineering

The Marine Engineering Operations program consists of a one-year English preparatory course and a four-year undergraduate education, with English as the mandatory language of instruction. The program is conducted in uniform. Graduates who successfully complete their studies receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering Operations from Piri Reis University Faculty of Maritime Studies.

The faculty’s maritime programs meet the requirements for both undergraduate degrees and oceangoing chief engineer training. The curriculum complies with IMO (International Maritime Organization) standards and is monitored and audited by YÖK (Higher Education Council) and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The courses fully align with STCW 2010 (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers).

The program aims to prepare students for engineering watch officer duties on merchant vessels. Following courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and basic engineering, students specialize in electrical, electronics, and control engineering.

Students complete 12 months of internship, consisting of six months of workshop training and six months onboard a vessel.

Graduates who pass the Seafarers’ Examination conducted by the Seafarers Examination Center according to the Seafarers and Pilot Captains Regulation obtain the Oceangoing Engineering Watch Officer License. They begin their careers as Third Engineers on both Turkish and foreign-flagged vessels. After completing the required service periods, they can qualify for the Second Engineer and later the Chief Engineer License through additional examinations.
